Have you ever thought about how to raise your kids spiritually? Well, in this episode, I’m gonna teach you how to raise yourself spiritually so that you can then focus on your kids.
Welcome to another episode of Supercharge Your Soul’s Transformation podcast. I’m your host, Dimplevindra, a spiritual coach that helps women heal trauma by using self-love techniques, yoga, and meditation. Today I am going to teach you how to raise yourself spiritually before you focus on raising your kids spiritually.
Most of my clients that call me sometimes have conflicts with their kids. One of my clients recently told me a story where she said, “Dimple, we went to Spain and Barcelona, and my 12-year-old kids could not even enjoy the moment because they were constantly on the phone. When we were there shopping, they just wanted to get branded clothes and branded watches.”
I was thinking, “Oh my God, our childhood was so simple; vacation for us was just going to our aunt’s house.” This made me realize that the generation of kids today, whether you’re in America, Japan, or Nepal, is seeing the same thing. Why? Because back in the day, we were in a whole different world. There were no cell phones in abundance.
Yes, there were mobile phones, but today, because of screens, mobile phones, and the constant bombardment of news and social media, our kids are fed with information nonstop. Whatever they’re seeing and consuming, they believe it to be the truth, even when it’s not.
In order for us to focus on raising our kids spiritually, we have to start with ourselves. Your kid is not going to go to the temple or church with you just because you think they should. Forcing them to pray or meditate won’t work if you don’t embody those values yourself. Instead, try this: Look at your own life and bring it out in the open.
Take a book or journal and write down your daily routine from morning to bedtime. What actions are you really taking? How many hours are you spending on your cell phone, on Instagram, or working on your laptop? How many hours are you cooking or cleaning? Write it all down.
Once you have your actions in front of you, assess which ones are not aligned with your spiritual goals. Eliminate the activities that are just causing busyness and stress. If you’re too busy and stressed, you won’t have time to connect with your kids or maintain healthy relationships.
Carve out some time for yourself. Take 30 minutes a day to focus on self-care. This could mean going for a walk, drinking tea, practicing yoga, meditating, or dancing. When your kids see you starting your day calmly, they will notice your composed energy.
Over time, they will mirror it. If you’re on your phone 24/7, don’t expect your kids to be any different. Lead by example by reducing screen time, especially during family outings or dinner. Connect with your kids by looking them in the eye and genuinely asking about their day. Kids today often lack social skills because they’re glued to screens. By being present and focused, you show them the attention they need.
Another important step is to meditate. Spend 10 to 30 minutes a day sitting quietly with your eyes closed, focusing on your breath. When your kids see you meditating consistently, they may become curious and ask to join you. This can create a beautiful moment of connection. Kids ultimately crave attention. If they don’t receive it from you, they will seek it elsewhere, often in unhealthy ways. By being present, calm, and attentive, you can provide the safe environment they need.
Spiritual growth also involves embodying divine qualities such as love. When you show self-love, your kids will feel loved. For instance, if they see you taking care of your health, being disciplined, and consistent, they will learn to value these traits. Conversely, if you neglect yourself, they will mirror that behavior.
A lack of self-love in parents often manifests as insecurity in kids. I’ve seen this repeatedly with clients who unknowingly project their insecurities onto their children. For example, a client’s daughter became obsessed with makeup at 13 because her parents frequently criticized her appearance. Such behaviors and comments can deeply affect a child’s self-esteem.
When parents focus on changing their kids’ behavior, they often need to start by changing their own. Apologizing to your kids for past mistakes can be a powerful step in creating harmony within the family. Remember, kids are a reflection of their environment.
If there is disharmony, it’s often a result of the parents’ actions or energy. So, to raise spiritual kids, you must first work on yourself. Embrace practices like meditation, self-care, and reducing unnecessary busyness. By doing so, you create a positive, peaceful energy that your kids will naturally absorb.
To conclude, focus on love. I have a mantra for you: “I am love. Love is inside me, and love is all that I exhibit outside of me.” If this statement feels challenging, it’s a sign that there’s work to be done. Start repeating this mantra daily, and you’ll notice its impact not only on yourself but also on those around you.
